Founded in 2025, Wounded Labourers Relief Association (WLRA) is a Ugandan charity and advocacy Association that works to promote lives of children of injured workers and their rights of injured workers in Uganda. We support families of injured workers who have sustained work related
injuries & disabilities.
Uganda’s economic progress is driven by a dedicated workforce individuals in construction sites, factories, workshops, farms, transport hubs, and markets who perform demanding tasks that keep the nation moving. These labourers contribute significantly to national development, yet they remain among the most vulnerable when workplace injuries occur. A single incident whether caused by a fall, equipment malfunction, hazardous conditions, or fatigue can result in severe medical, financial, and social consequences for a worker and their family.
For many injured labourers, the path to recovery is marked by limited access to medical care, uncertainty about legal rights, and a lack of structured support. In numerous cases, workers are unaware of the provisions within the Workers’ Compensation Act or how to pursue compensation from employers or insurers. As a result, many face prolonged hardship, diminished earning capacity, and long-term instability.
The Wounded Labourers Relief Association was established to address this critical gap. Recognising the need for a dedicated institution focused on the welfare of injured workers, we set out to provide a coordinated system of assistance combining legal guidance, medical referral support, case management, and rehabilitation pathways. Our mandate is to ensure that every injured laborer receives fair treatment, access to justice, and an opportunity to rebuild their livelihood.
Our work is grounded in professionalism, integrity, and a clear understanding of Uganda’s labor environment. By engaging with employers, health providers, insurers, and regulatory bodies, we strive to strengthen accountability, promote safer workplaces, and enhance the overall social protection framework for workers.
Today, the Association continues to support labourers across the country with a commitment to dignity, transparency, and effective advocacy. Our story is defined not only by the workers we serve, but also by our dedication to advancing a safer and more equitable labor sector for Uganda.
